Authorities said two adults and three children were killed when 23-year-old Alberto Coronado ran a stop sign and struck a tan Chevy Impala on Sunday at 3:15 p.m,
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Coronado has been charged with five counts of manslaughter while under the influence.
Humberto Ignacio Alferez, 63, Aurora Sombra, 52, and Jassmine Alferez, 18 were named among the deceased. An 11-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were also listed as victims who died in the accident.
“There was blood spattered all over the car but we couldn’t do anything to save the little kids,” witness Sandra Montelongo said sobbing.
Montelongo, who lives here the intersection of John Henry and Santi Esteban, said she told sheriff’s deputies that Coronado borrowed her phone after crawling out of his Ford F-150 that had rolled over.
She said he made a call to his family and overheard him admit to speeding and running the stop sign.
Dozens of neighbors in the Montana Vista neighborhood surround the scene.
Neighbors who witnessed the accident remained at the scene for hours, many of them unable to fight back tears.
The relationship between the five people in the Chevy has not been released.

According to web sources, Coronado had a pending DUI charge at the time of this tragedy stemming from an arrest in December of last year .
