An illegal lane change led to a Lower Valley man’s arrest for his fifth DWI, El Paso police reported.

A police officer observed a vehicle make a sudden lane change without signalling along the 7200 block of Alameda early Sunday morning. The 1985 Dodge Ram then suddenly swerved from the right to left lane, police said.

Fifty-year old Eloy Marquez, of the 7200 block of Alameda, was pulled over.

Alberto OrtizPolice said a drunken driving suspect has been convicted on 12 previous DWI charges since 1994.

Police received a call from a citizen reporting a possible drunken driver on I-10 West near Executive Boulevard late Thursday night.

Alberto Ortiz, 41, was driving a black 2011 Dodge Ram and was pulled over by police when they noticed he was driving erratically, police said.

Police saw signs of intoxication, and further investigation revealed he had 12 prior DWI convictions, all in El Paso County, police said.

Ortiz was charged with DWI third or more and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with bail set at $7,500.

A Lower Valley woman had four children in her vehicle when she was arrested for driving while intoxicated, police report.

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the Circle K store at 700 N. Americas at North Loop at 11:20 p.m. Saturday.

The investigation revealed that Lucia Pichardo, 27, of the 8000 block of Valley View, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban when she collided with another vehicle at the gas pumps at the store.

Pichardo was intoxicated and also had four children – ages 5, 4, 2 and 3 months – in her vehicle, police said.

She was placed under arrest for DWI and booked into El Paso County Jail. She was also found to have three outstanding Municipal Court warrants. Her bonds totaled $5,747.

Pedro Aguero, 27, allegedly drove in the wrong direction on Interstate 10 while intoxicated, causing two accidents early Monday morning. Aguero is in the El Paso County jail right now on three charges of intoxicated assault with a motor vehicle. His bond is set at $45,000.

Two police officers said they had to swerve out of the way to avoid being struck by Aguero. After that, the driver of a Ford F-150 swerved out of the way to avoid hitting Aguero and crashed into a cement barrier.

Aguero’s Nissan Altima then crashed into a white Ford Ranger, sending three men to the hospital with serious injuries.

Aguero was taken to the hospital and was arrested upon his release.

According to his arrest affidavit, Aguero admitted to police that he had too much to drink.

On Aguero’s Facebook page, he stated Sunday that he wanted tequila and beer. He checked in at Hooters and then the Tork Bar. He talked about wanting to go to the Three Legged Monkey before he stopped updating his status.

A 45-year-old man with four previous driving while intoxicated convictions was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving again Saturday night.

Gerardo Perez, of the 600 block of North Carolina, was stopped on the 800 block of North Carolina for allegedly going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone at about 11:45 p.m.

Police said Perez showed signs of being intoxicated and he was arrested and booked into El Paso County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Perez had been convicted of driving while intoxicated in 1994, 1998, 1999 and 2002.

The trial of a former Fort Bliss soldier accused of causing a fatal New Year’s Day crash last year came to a halt Wednesday after he decided to plead guilty instead of letting a jury decide his fate.

Court officials said Theo dore Joseph Gersky, 22, pleaded guilty to intoxicated manslaughter after an hourlong recess in the morning. State District Judge Bill Hicks sentenced Gersky to four years in prison.

Authorities said two adults and three children were killed when 23-year-old Alberto Coronado ran a stop sign and struck a tan Chevy Impala on Sunday at 3:15 p.m,

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Coronado has been charged with five counts of  manslaughter while under the influence.

Humberto Ignacio Alferez, 63, Aurora Sombra, 52, and Jassmine Alferez, 18 were named among the deceased. An 11-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were also listed as victims who died in the accident.

“There was blood spattered all over the car but we couldn’t do anything to save the little kids,” witness Sandra Montelongo said sobbing.

Montelongo, who lives here the intersection of John Henry and Santi Esteban, said she told sheriff’s deputies that Coronado borrowed her phone after crawling out of his Ford F-150 that had rolled over.

She said he made a call to his family and overheard him admit to speeding and running the stop sign.

Dozens of neighbors in the Montana Vista neighborhood surround the scene.

Neighbors who witnessed the accident remained at the scene for hours, many of them unable to fight back tears.

The relationship between the five people in the Chevy has not been released.

According to web sources, Coronado had a pending DUI charge at the time of this tragedy stemming from an arrest in December of last year .

An early morning crash killed one person, resulting in the arrest of another for a suspected DWI, according to El Paso police investigators.

It all happened just after midnight Monday morning in the westbound lanes of the 12400 block of Montana, said El Paso Police Dept. spokesman Ofc. Chris Mears.

Justin Marks, 34, had just pulled out of a parking lot onto Montana in his white Buick Park Avenue, when the driver of a 2012 Camaro, Jeffery Henigan, 27, a soldier assigned to Fort Bliss, hit the Buick at a high speed from behind, said Mears.

Marks and his passenger, 33-year-old Jaime Sambrano, were rushed to a local hospital where Sambrano died, said Mears. Marks only had minor injuries, said Mears.

Sambrano was not wearing a seatbelt, said Mears.

Police conducted a field sobriety test on Henigan, and say he failed the test, according to officers at the scene. He was arrested for Intoxicated Manslaughter.

A suspected drunk driver allegedly killed 20-year-old Leeza Lugo in Northeast El Paso.

Police said 22-year-old Jacob McGuire was behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram when he lost control and hit the concrete barrier on Loop 375 and Railroad just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn.

Lugo, from Anthony, Texas was ejected from the truck and died at the scene.

Paramedics took McGuire and three other passengers to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police have charged McGuire with intoxicated manslaughter.

A 32-year-old man accused of causing a deadly DWI crash that killed a teenage boy was identified.

Monday morning police identified the driver as Julian Tapia of San Elizario, Texas.

According to police, Tapia was driving a Ford F-150 that struck the vehicle 13-year-old Pablo Hernandez was riding in Saturday afternoon.

Hernandez died Saturday from his injuries.

The Suburban Pablo was riding in was struck from behind causing it to crash into a rock wall along the 9300 block of North Loop.

Tapia was also hospitalized for injuries caused by the crash, said police. Once Tapia was released from the hospital, police said they arrested him and charged him with intoxication manslaughter.

Tapia was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

One man is dead and another has been hospitalized with what are being called life-threatening injuries after a suspected drunk driver crashed into the two men while they were performing construction work on Interstate 10 East near Schuster early Sunday morning, police said.

The crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. An 18-year-old man, whose residence was listed as Fort Bliss, disregarded a traffic barricade and struck the two men while they were working, police said.

One of the men died at the scene and the other was transported to an area hospital.

Officers have arrested the 18-year-old driver, who has not been identified pending formal charges being filed. The identities of the two crash victims have not been released either.

The two-year-old involved in a suspected drunken driving crash died.

Jazline Saldana, 2, died Monday evening from injuries she suffered in a rollover crash. El Paso police investigators arrested and charged the child’s mother, Berenice Alonso, with intoxicated manslaughter.

They believe speed, distracted driving and alcohol were all factors in the rollover crash that happened Saturday on Socorro Road.

El Paso police said Alonso was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier heading eastbound, when she lost control of the car, went off the roadway and rolled the car several times.

Saldana was ejected from the car. Alonso also suffered a head injury and was taken to Del Sol Medical Center. Alonso was booked into the El Paso County Jail. Her bond was set at $100,000.

An El Paso man was arrested Tuesday night for aggravated DWI and vehicular homicide after the car he was driving reportedly rolled over several times, killing one of his passengers.

A deputy who was nearby at the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office Chaparral substation on Lisa Drive heard the crash and responded.

According to deputies, 23-year-old Armando Ozuna was driving eastbound on Lisa Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Chaparral when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to rollover.

Javier Ochoa, 20, was reportedly riding in the passenger seat and was ejected from the vehicle. He died a short time later while being transported to an El Paso-area hospital.

Another passenger who was riding in the backseat behind Ozuna was also injured and was transported to the hospital. No information was immediately available on the extent of his injuries.

All three men were reportedly correctional officers with the Doña Ana County Detention Center. Ozuna was given standard field sobriety tests at the scene. Deputies reported that impairment was found. He was arrested and booked at the Doña Ana County Detention Center on charges of aggravated DWI and vehicular homicide. His secured bond was set at $150,000.

A crash in northeast El Paso left one man dead and a woman in custody.

Police say the crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. at the 9100 block of Dyer.

Officers say a woman was speeding in her Jeep at the same time that a car driven by a 21-year-old man was pulling out of a fast-food restaurant.

The driver of the Jeep swerved into the lane and hit the man’s car from behind, sending it into a curb and then colliding with a bench.

The man died at the scene. The woman was taken to UMC, where she is in custody and facing charges of intoxicated manslaughter
